KATO N Gauge C11 171 SL Winter Wetlands Train Set 14 Series 10-1958 Model. The “SL Winter Wetlands Train” is a winter-only sightseeing train operating on the Nemuro Main Line between Kushiro and Shibecha. It is currently the only steam locomotive train running in Hokkaido. The train allows passengers to experience the natural beauty of Kushiro Wetlands up close, with unique cars such as the “Tancho Car, ” featuring seats arranged to face the windows, and the “Stove Car, ” equipped with traditional daruma stoves. The C11 171 locomotive, which serves as the train’s engine, was originally preserved in a park in Shibecha. It was restored as a functioning steam engine in 1998 (Heisei 10) and has since been used for various event trains in Hokkaido. Currently, it is exclusively assigned to this train and operates in reverse on the return journey, which is another unique characteristic. Modeled after its post-overhaul appearance from January 2022 (Reiwa 4). Distinctive details reproduced, including a rotating spark arrestor on the chimney, protective grilles below the cab, and Hokkaido-style handrails on the deck.
