It is a complete train set with a locomotive and rolling stock and operating components built from about 1959 to about 1972. All train and operating components are in excellent condition, and everything in the set works as it should. The track are all 027 gauge and are in fair to very good condition. Included in this sale are the following. 1 – Lionel #8141 2-4-2 steam locomotive, with a powerful ac motor, a working headlight, smoke unit with puffer and an e unit that allows it to run in forward and reverse directions controlled from the transformer. The 8141 was built from 1970 to 1972. 1 – Lionel Rock Island tender with an electronic “sound of steam” package that creates a “choo-choo” sound triggered from the locomotive as the train moves in either direction. 1 – Lionel #6162 New York Central long gondola car. This car was built from 1959 to 1962. 1 – Lionel #9078 Rock Island 4 wheel bobber caboose. The 9078 was built in 1976 and 1977. 1 – Lionel type 1025 45 watt transformer with a speed control, a push to reverse terminal, a 110 volt power cord and a 2 wire cable for connection to the track. This transformer was made from 1961 to 1969. 1 – 41″ X 54″ soft backed vinyl mat with vinyl painted details to depict a track bed, a couple of parking areas and some roadways. More details and buildings can be added as desired. 1 – Lionel CTC track power connector. 8- 027 gauge curved track sections. 6- 027 gauge straight track sections. 1 – Plasticville train station that has some repairs, and has been glued together. 1 – Plasticville community church that has not been glued together. 1 – Plasticville cottage that has been glued together. 6 – Small plastic trees/bushes. 1 – standard operating instruction booklet. 1 – Track polishing pad. 4 – die-cast Matchbox type cars. 3 – smaller plastic cars. 1 – Lionel smoke fluid. 1 – Custom made set box with liners to protect the components of the set. I completely assembled the set and tested everything. All of the train components are in vary good condition, especially since the components are in the 50 to 60 year old range, but have some play-wear scuffs & dings, dust and some slight rust in areas from years of alternating use and storage. As I previously mentioned, the track is in fair to very good condition, with some light rust and considerable tarnish. I lightly cleaned them, made sure each track has 3 pins, and made sure the train runs nicely on them. This train is ready to set up and play with. I have been making these vinyl pad train layouts for years in various sizes for friends and family. They are great for protecting the surface the train is put onto, and since they are waterproof, they double in use for a pad for a Christmas tree, keeping water and needles off of your floor. They are very durable and the vinyl paint will not flake off, even when the mat is folded for storage. To safely store the remainder of those sets, I made boxes with separators to keep the components from damaging one another, as I put together sets from shelf storage, I do the same thing, I make boxes to fit the size of the set and put as much protection in there as space allows. I have described this item to the best of my ability, please check the photos carefully as they are also part of the description.
